In 1767 Shūzan Yoshimura edited a six volume picture book entitled Wakan Meihitsu Gahō (i.e., (Outstanding Japanese and Chinese Painting Treasures). It included the twenty-nine pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. These pictures were black-and-white, woodblock-printed copies of paintings done by famous Japanese artists, most of whom were members of the Kanō family.
